Good Advice

1. If you voted in May 2024 you will know our village hut was not a polling station. The Parish Council tried to get this reviewed but the next opportunity will be the 2028/9 election.

Save the emergency power cut number - '105' - to your phone to report any loss of supply or damage to the electricity network
Visiting SSEN's Power Track Website to give you details of power cuts . You can also report power cuts and network damage through the Power Track app
Going to SSEN's website where there is a wealth of advice and information on how to deal with a power cut, or to chat live to one of SSEN's advisors via its webchat service.

If you lose power for a distribution system fault for more than 12 hours SSEN will provide compensation. More than 24 hours compensation is automatic.

Our Easter Services: Good Friday 11.15 devotion service, not recommended for children. Easter Day at 11.15 am Easter Communion with hymns all welcome especially young people.

Our Church Services Pattern for 2026 is as follows:

1st Sunday of month - 0800 Holy Communion.

2nd Sunday - 11.15 Morning Prayer.

3rd Sunday - No service . Service at Bishop at 9.30 Morning Prayer.

4th Sunday - 11.15 Morning Prayer.

CPR is an emergency lifesaving procedure, performed when the heart stops beating. Each year over 30,000 people have an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in the UK, with less than one in ten surviving - giving CPR and using a defibrillator can more than double someone’s chance of survival.
Applications for secondary school places. You have until end of October to apply for secondary school places for the September 2026 entry. Applications for primary schools and infant to junior transfer close January 2026.

Forthcoming events

The Old Fonthill Abbey Grounds were open two Sundays in May 2025.

This was a very successful event in aid of Cure Parkinson’s and local charities (including our Church and Village Hut). Thanks to all who helped and please keep 3rd of May or 17th May free to help again in 2026!

Parish Council Meetings in the Village Hut continue at 7pm on the first Monday of each month, unless a change is published on the village notice board.

Ticks can be active all year round, but they are most active in the months April to July, and sometimes later in the autumn.
Don't let ticks stop you from enjoying the outdoors but reduce the chance of acquiring a tick bite by:
1. Using a repellent that prevents ticks
2.   Wearing long sleeves and long trousers to reduce direct skin exposure
3.   Keep to clearly defined paths and avoid brushing against vegetation
4.   Regularly check for ticks and brush off any you find immediately
5.   When you’re back indoors, check for any ticks on you, your children and pets
6. If you find a tick, remove it as soon as possible with a removal device
